DEPENDENT CARE FSA

Overview

The Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) allows you to pay for dependent daycare expenses on a pretax basis, such as daycare expenses for a child an elder adult, that you need to pay so you can work. Your contributions accumulate each payroll period. Unlike a health care FSA, you can only be reimbursed up to the current balance in your Dependent Care FSA.

Examples of eligible Dependent Care FSA expenses include:

  • Daycare facility fees (excluding transportation, lunches, and educational services),
  • Before-school and after-school care, day camp for children under the age of 13
  • In-home babysitting fees paid to a non-dependent relative (income must be claimed by your care provider)
  • Nursery school and preschool (preschool expenses are eligible if the amount you pay for schooling cannot be separated from the cost of care).
